TIME Magazine Recognizes Deepika Padukone as a Global Star; Actress Discusses Political Backlash, India’s Oscar Wins, and Ranveer’s Support

Deepika Padukone, the Indian film actress and producer, recently spoke her mind about a range of topics during a TIME magazine shoot. When asked about the Besharam Rang controversy in Paathan and the backlash she faced for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, Deepika gave a poker-faced reply, stating that she didn’t know if she was supposed to feel something about it, but the truth was that she didn’t feel anything about it.

The actress, who recently made it to the cover of TIME magazine as a ‘Global Star’, also shared her thoughts on India’s Oscar wins at the 95th Academy Awards this year. She expressed her belief that we should not be content with just one Oscar for a song and a documentary, but rather see it as the beginning of an opportunity. Deepika had introduced the stage performance of the Oscar-winning song Naatu Naatu during the awards ceremony on March 10.

Deepika’s ‘Global Star’ tag comes from various brands like Louis Vuitton and Levis. When asked about the impact of these brands, the actress said they represented a coming together of new ideas and traditional ethos across the country. She found it fascinating that the India with its roots, heritage, and history was merging with the new and young India that was emerging.

During the shoot, Deepika was surprised by the presence of her husband, Ranveer Singh. Talking about her relationship with Ranveer, Deepika said she never felt that she had reached her shelf-life as an actress because of Ranveer’s support. She stated that Ranveer has always put her dreams and ambitions first, and she has never had that experience of feeling limited in her career.

Deepika is currently getting ready for the release of her upcoming film Fighter, in which she will share screen space with Hrithik Roshan for the first time. She also has Project K lined up for release next year.

In conclusion, Deepika Padukone spoke candidly about various aspects of her life during the TIME magazine shoot. Her views on India’s Oscar wins, the merging of traditional and new India, and her relationship with Ranveer Singh provide insight into the actress’s personal and professional life.
